Happy New Year Family,

At the close of 2008 we have cause to celebrate and reflect on a significantly historical moment. Our politics at home and abroad will forever be changed. President elect Barack Obama takes the reins of a critically wounded America. Throughout his campaign he has consistently stressed that the change we Americans are looking for will be hard won.

It will depend on his administration telling America the TRUTH about our condition and our being willing to share the responsibility for the work ahead needed for our nations healing.

We are being called in this season to regain a focus beyond the “self “that many of us have been con$umed by in recent years. This is literally an invitation for all of us to shift our focus to the needs of OTHERS.

President elect Obama by his very presence on the campaign trail sowed new seeds of warmth and compassion in the hearts of the nation’s people. He has continually modeled, in a genuine way, the impact of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE.
He has been chided as being a COMMUNITY organizer. Isn’t the real power to sustain change ultimately in the hands of all of us who collectively make up the global community?

Could it be that President elect Obama has studied the political strategies of Jesus Christ? How better to rally a lost people than to study the one who even 2000 years later had a strategy that today offers: an uncompromising truth, teaches a gospel of serving the other, demonstrates unconditional love and acceptance {to the degree that all social and political structures were shaken at their very foundation in the midst of his ministry}. This Jesus who rallied the widows and kings, prostitutes and pontiffs, lepers and physicians successfully broke down the walls that divided, and built an endearing kingdom community. Jesus proclaimed the HOPE, that God makes available to all who choose to believe.
